January 11th is National Hot Toddy Day. I kind of associate hot toddies with an old fashioned cold cure. I mean if I'm being honest, I know that it probably isn't going to cure this awful flu-like whatever it is that I have right at this moment. I thought perhaps the addition of satsuma oranges, ginger, and turmeric might up the atne a little bit!
Watermelon Cocktail
Last week, we found out Lainee Lou Hou relapsed, Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia is back. The medications kicked in last weekend, and have bared their teeth through the week.
To end a particularly stressful week, because Wednesday was National Watermelon Day, and because both Lainee and I LOVE watermelon, I thought it would be fitting to share this recipe today!
Green Poodle Cocktail
Changing my diet to mostly vegetables has forced me to be more open to new flavors and spices. I used to be such a wuss about spiciness. I still kind of am, but am definitely more adventurous.
That led me to trying a cocktail based on jalapeno. A cocktail that I am still thinking about. I can't remember all the exact ingredients of said cocktail, but I am pretty dang satisfied with how this one turned out. It is clean, fresh, and crisp, with a spicy aftertaste.
Spicy Bees Knees Cocktail - Cheers to running buddies
Today, I was hoping to get in 15 - 17 miles. I think I might be training for another marathon. I haven't been able to find a training group for a December marathon, so I am all about finding running buddies to spend my Saturday mornings with!
Unfortunately, my awesome running buddy was sick today, so I decided I would do my run indoors. On the treadmill. I did 10.5 miles intertwined with 10 X 800s. It was more difficult than my 15 mile run through Percy Warner (aka: land of mountainesque hills) last weekend. Not physically, but cognitively. Cognitively, I was so freaking bored. Which made me thankful for the my running buddies!
I sure do love my running buddies! I love that they hold me accountable, whether its showing up at a group run or making sure I did some rehab exercises! I had no idea that running would lead to so many great friendships and support systems! I wanted to take the time to say; running buddies, you are THE BEES KNEES!!!! Cheers to you with a Spicy Bees Knees Cocktail!!
FLAT CAP COCKTAIL - Bourbon + Orange Cream Soda Syrup + Bitters
We try to make it a point to try new things, especially when it comes to cocktails since we only know how to make, like, three to four cocktails. (Rhubarb Rumbler, Negroni, Gin & Tonic [does that even count??] and gin/st.germaine/grapefruit juice.) Chris, ordered the Flat Cap which is bourbon + orange cream soda syrup + bitters. IT WAS RIDICULOUS!!
Then we went back and he had another one/I had half. The next steps were obvious. I had to figure out how to make it. So here it is!!
Rhubarb Rumbler Cocktail
Refreshing. Light. Springy. Sweet/Salty. Tart. DELICIOUS.
I've had a rhubarb plant for about four years. Rhubarb was something I really missed about Minnesota. In Minnesota, I feel like everyone has a rhubarb plant/plants. Am I right Minnesota friends???
I have great memories of delicious rhubarb crumble/cobbler/crisp/pie/bars. YES BARS. Thats a shoutout to my Minnesota roots.
