Today, I was hoping to get in 15 - 17 miles. I think I might be training for another marathon. Possibly the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville, Alabama on December 12th. I haven't been able to find a training group for a December marathon, so I am all about finding running buddies to spend my Saturday mornings with!
Unfortunately, my awesome running buddy was sick today, so at 4:50 am I decided to go back to sleep for a little bit. I woke up around 8:30 am a little sniffly myself (hypochondriac??) and decided I would do my run indoors. On the treadmill.
Since I knew Chris would probably be coming with me, I thought I would compromise for 10-13 miles. Then he forgot his headphones, and HOW BORING is that, so I did 10.5 miles intertwined with 10 X 800s.
It was more difficult than my 15 mile run through Percy Warner (aka: land of mountainesque hills) last weekend. Not physically, but cognitively. Physically, the run was great! I can tell that I am getting faster thanks to the speed work I've been doing, and I felt good about the fact that I did 10.5 miles on top of the 800's. It was a good benchmark run. Cognitively, I was so freaking bored.
I sure do love my running buddies! I love that they hold me accountable, whether its showing up at a group run or making sure I did some rehab exercises! I had no idea that running would lead to so many great friendships and support systems!
I wanted to take the time to say; running buddies, you are THE BEES KNEES!!!!
In honor of savoring every last bit of summer and paying tribute to the humidity and hills, here is my take on the classic Bees Knees cocktail!!
I used Bees Knees Spicy Honey (which was a gift from one of my fellow running buddies, THANKS KELLY AND DAPHNE!). You MUST try it! It is sweet at first taste and then leaves a little tingle on your tongue and heats up your lips! It is SPICY and adds a nice kick to a refreshing and tangy cocktail.
I also used Corsair gin, which we love, and is made right here in Nashville!
To make sure the honey mixes in with the ingredients, I warmed it up in a separate container for 10 - 15 seconds. Otherwise, I noticed it got stuck on the bottom of the cocktail shaker.
Enjoy a Spicy Bees Knees Cocktail and savor the last few weeks of summer!

Spicy Bees Knees Cocktail
INGREDIENTS
- 3 oz gin (Corsair if you can find it!)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Bees Knees Spicy Honey
- 1 teaspoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
- lemon rind
- ice
1. Add gin, Bees Knees Spicy Honey, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker. (I put the honey into the microwave for 10 - 15 seconds so it would mix easier!) Shake for 30 seconds. Pour over ice, add lemon rind, and enjoy!
